1. GENERAL
1.2 - Name:
Queen Margaret University’s LGBT Society, all so known as QMU LGBT Society, QMULGBT and QMLGBT. Hereafter known as The Society.
1.3 - Purpose, Aims & Objectives:
The Society’s principal purpose, aim and objective is to further the interests of LGBT students within Queen Margaret University.
1.3.1 The Society shall create a community and membership for LGBT students of QMU.
1.3.1.1 Act on behalf of and in representation of those members within the Students’ Union and University.
1.3.2 The Society shall stand for, create a safe place and provide social support for all members.
1.3.3 The Society shall provide information on issues of sexuality (including sexual heath) for all members and for students seeking advice, sure and questioning of their sexuality.
1.3.4 The Society shall provide a social atmosphere for all members and engage in social activities and events.
1.3.4.1 The Society shall represent all members interested in socialising with other LGBT people, or non-member LGBT students interested in socialising with its members.
1.3.5 The Society shall act as a campaigning group within the Students’ Union and University and engage in awareness campaigns and events.
1.3.5.1 Work as an advocate for the rights and welfare of all its members.
1.3.5.2 Work as an advocate for the rights and welfare of the LGBT community; locally, nationally and globally.
1.3.5.3 Work for the equal treatment of all its members irrespective of sexuality and/or gender status.
1.3.5.4 Work to eradicate Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and other related oppressions.
1.3.6 The Society shall work in accordance with the NUS National LGBT Campaign and NUS Scotland LGBT Campaign.

In order to achieve the purpose, aims and objectives as set out above, The Society shall;
1.4.1 Generate or maintain a network with LGBT Societies across Edinburgh and the rest of the UK.
1.4.2 Hold meetings and drop in sessions (see 3.3).
1.4.3 Research and arrange for advocates on any issue brought up.
1.4.4 Arrange and hold monthly social activities created by the Social Secretary (see 3.2).
1.4.5 Arrange and hold awareness campaigns on issues affecting the LGBT community (see 4.3).
